John Coltrane’s 1964 Album ‘Blue World’ To Be Released For The First Time

An album by the legendary American jazz artist John Coltrane will be released for the first time.

The album titled ‘Blue World’ recorded in 1964 with his Classic Quartet was recorded at Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey. The album follows last year’s archival release ‘Both Directions at Once: The Lost’ a previously unreleased 1963 album.

‘Blue World’ was recorded in June of 1964 for a Canadian film drama ‘Le chat dans le sac (“The Cat in the Bag”)’ under the request of filmmaker Gilles Groulx. Ten minutes of the session then appeared in the film.

The 37-minute session was recorded in-between Crescent in April and A Love Supreme in December of 1964. The album has been mastered from its original analog tape by Kevin Reeves at Universal Music Mastering in New York. The new vinyl edition’s lacquers were cut by Ron McMaster at Capitol Studios.

The album is scheduled for release in September 27 on CD and vinyl, and as a digital download, under Coltrane’s label Impulse!/Ume.
