Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White Dies at 74

Earth, Wind & Fire founder and band leader Maurice White popularly known as Reese has passed on.

“My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep. While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.”  Verdine White said in a Facebook post.

The band leader was diagnosed with Parkinson disease in 1991 but his condition had deteriorated in recent months.

White co-wrote some of the top hits from Earth Wind and Fire including; “Shining Star,” “Sing a Song” and “September”
For the better part of the 70s and 80s EWF was one of the top bands behind inspiring horn-driven funky tunes that became a generation’s anthem.

The band won six Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.
