The three day non-stop musical experience which runs from September 2 to 4, will showcase the best of the underground world of contemporary music from Africa complimented by special cuisines and art.
Considered among biggest music festivals in Africa, the Nyege Nyege Festival has lined-up a massive list of artists from 31 countries for the best of contemporary African music. Various genres will rend the air with more than 200 artists expected to showcase their work.
From across the globe, the organizers have put together a list of international artists that will include acts renowned for their work with African sounds such as Tropical Bass pioneer Daniel Haaksman& Schlachthofbronx both hailing from Germany, Dub Morphology (UK) DJ Zhao (China) and Tropical Camel (Israel).
Burkina Faso Hip Hop act Joey le Soldat and the revered African electronic music legend from Niger Mamman Sani are among top performers expected to bring the festival to life. Other headliners will include the multifaceted Gato Preto from Mozambique and multitalented Ibaaku (Senegal) and Malian Balani pioneer Luka Production.
Shouka Records from Tunisia and Sahel Sounds,Akwaaba are among the music labels from across the region will also be present together with UK label Blip Discs, Low Up from Belgium and Man Recordings straight from Germany.
The three-day event will also feature fashion, fine food and daily screenings of films and documentaries about music and art.
Nyege Nyege Festival, organized by Boutiq Foundation-a community based organization in Uganda-seeks to develop the local arts and culture industry by creating opportunities for upcoming artists while connecting underground acts from around the continent. The event takes inspiration from the legendary World Festival of the Black Arts’ that took place in Dakar Senegal in 1966.
