Tanzanian singer Ray C goes back to rehab after she reportedly attempted suicide

Veteran Tanzanian musician Rehema ‘Ray C’ Chalamila has been taken to back to rehab after she reportedly tried to commit suicide.

Officials at Life and Hope & Rehabilitation Centre confirmed that indeed the famed musician was taken to the center on Friday.

A video doing rounds shows Ray C in a police car as she fights off men in uniform, she was allegedly arrested after she caused a scene and attempted to end her life by stabbing herself. Ray C has for the longest time been battling drug addiction.

In February this year Ray C was quoted saying she has not gone back to drugs after a tabloid reported that she had slipped back into her bad habits. At the time the singer was running an anti-drug campaign, the singer had just left a rehab center after she was admitted in 2012. Then Tanzanian president Jakaya Kiwete was among the people who were instrumental in aiding the talented bongo star.

Ray C is the voice behind major hits that created and defined the sound of modern Tanzanian music-Bongo Flava they include: “Wanitafutia Nini”, “Sogea Sogea”, “Na Wewe Milele”, “Kama Vipi” which she did with Mez B and “Mapenzi Yangu” her voice is also on the hit song “Nipe Mimi” which she did with Temba. “Wawili” is among her most recent release which she did after she left rehab.

Ray C will always be a prominent figure in East African music scene and we only hopes she overcomes her major challenge and get back to doing what she did best.

Meanwhile another talented artist from Tanzanian Chidi Benz has left rehab after he successfully went through treatment.
