Mozilla Abandons Firefox OS, looks to IoT

Mozilla has announced that it will end development on Firefox OS for smartphones after version 2.6 release.

The company says it plans to shift all its focus to Internet of Things (IoT) future, and by the end of May the company will have pulled all resources from Firefox OS.

Last year, the company had hinted at giving up developing an operating system for smartphones that would rival Android and iOS.

The latest announcement from Mozilla has irked developers, however, Mozilla ‘will keep accepting Firefox Apps into 2017’, so it may not be the end yet.
