The UK city of London will host the Felabration concert at
Indigo, The O2 in celebration of the Arfobeat icon Fela Kuti. The event planned
for August 30 will also advocate for preservation of African culture through
music, fashion and the arts.
The UK is one of the major regions that adopted the Afrobeat
wave and was key in popularizing the sound to the global audience at the same
time acted as one of Fela’s biggest music breakthrough.
This year’s Felabration UK is organized by the late singer’s
daughter Shalewa Kuti and features performances from the likes of: Awilo
Longomba, Falz, Harrysong, A.star, Eugy, BM, Sona, Drumz with Atumpan, Mr 2Kay,
Hotyce, Shiikane, Tomi Agape, Damibliz, and others.
American singer Lauryn Hill and Nigerian musician Majek Fashek will
be in line to receive honorary awards for their contribution to African music.
The main Felabration festival set at the New Afrika Shrine in
Lagos is scheduled to take place from October 14-20th.
