The launch saw a number of artists and poetry enthusiast celebrate in style with the Kenyan poet who also doubles up as a rapper and actor. American poet and Hip Hop artist Akua Naru, who was on a tour of Africa, was at hand to give Mido a thumps up plus her stunning performance, albeit short, to the satisfaction of the audience.
Mido backed by his long-term and new collaborators would stir up the audience as he moved with ease from expressive recitation to beat boxing and drums which accompanied his delivery, a nifty performance in English and Kiswahili with truly African aesthetics.
Mido started performing in 2008 and has been active since 2009, he has been to various stages including LaBa Arts Festival (Uganda), Storymoja Hay Festival (Kenya), SPOKEN WOR:L:DS (Germany), NuVo Arts Festival (Uganda) and Festival du Theater Des Realites (Mali). He has also graced Kinanda Festival and Poetry Slam Africa in Kenya.
Mido is definitely is not only a gifted poet but has done various projects in the theater where he played as the lead in a play, The Mayor’s Diary and in another play Death and The Estate where he played the lawyer.
