Innocent Simiyu named Kenya Sevens squads coach

Innocent Simiyu has been appointed Kenya’s men’s and women’s sevens squads’ coach. The 33-year-old nicknamed “Namcos” is a decorated player who has featured in 121 matches on the sevens World Series scoring 58 tries and 15 conversions during his career from 2002-2010.

Simiyu returned to competitive rugby after a career threatening injury appearing in three of the Kenya Simbas test matches this year.

The World Rugby Level 2 accredited coach replaces the revered Benjamin Ayimba while Eric Ogweno takes over as team manager, a docket previously held by Newton Ong'alo.

Briton Ian Gibbons will be the new Strength and Conditioning Coach while Lameck Bogonko retains his slot as Team Physio.
